SJK(C) Chi Sin in Batu Kikir, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan may be a Chinese school, but surprisingly its Standard One students this year are all Malays.

In total, 20 Malay students began their Standard One classes, while overall, 62 of its 66 students are all Malays.

According to reports in Sin Chew Daily, this makes SJK(C) Chi Sin the only Malay-majority Chinese primary school in the country.

Cultural integration forms the cornerstone of this school and celebrations like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, the mooncake festival and others are jointly celebrated with the parents also.

Won Kew Knew, the headmistress of the school said the school is one of a kind due to its large number of Malay students.

Teachers at the school have also adopted a special approach to teach the Malay students Chinese.

More than 10 years ago, the school had only about 20 students, but in recent years, Malay parents began sending their children to the Chinese primary school.

This eventually prompted more Malay parents to send their children there to learn Chinese also.

Now, there are 20 students in Year One, 11 (Year Two); 10 (Year Three); 12 (Year Four); four (Year Five); and nine (Year Six).

The number of students increased from 60 to 66 this year, added Won. – The Vibes, March 20, 2024
