A NATIONAL-type Chinese school (SJKC) in Port Dickson has apologised to all Malaysians after mistakenly hanging the Jalur Gemilang upside down at the school on August 1.

The governing board, parent-teacher association (PIBG) and the school, in a statement, also said they regretted the mistake and had corrected it.

According to the statement in Mandarin, the school explained that the Jalur Gemilang was hung at the school in response to the call to celebrate Merdeka Month.

“However, due to negligence, one of the flags in front of the school was hung upside down by a worker.

“The incident was noticed by the public who took pictures and uploaded them to social media,” read the statement.

The school received the information at around 5pm and immediately took corrective measures.

“The mistake was unintentional, and the school admits its mistake,” it said.

The school emphasised respect for national symbols and is committed to implementing patriotic education.

“The school administration also vowed to strengthen monitoring and implementation procedures and increase the level of vigilance and thoroughness so a similar incident will not recur.

In conjunction with Merdeka Month, the school announced that various patriotic activities are being implemented including the Merdeka Month launch ceremony, classroom decoration competition, photography competition, National Day quiz, colouring competition, poster design competition and patriotic parade. – August 3, 2025
