KUALA LUMPUR – As the debacle surrounding chief graft-buster Tan Sri Azam Baki has yet to die down, it has prompted PKR Youth to hand over a “Memorandum Rakyat” at Jalan Parlimen yesterday.
PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the Memorandum Rakyat should be taken seriously if the government wanted to be immediately fulfilled to restore the people’s faith in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Yesterday, more than 50 individuals representing 24 youth groups marched towards Parliament while chanting “lawan rasuah, undur, Azam Baki” (fight corruption, step down, Azam Baki).
Speaking to members of the press outside Parliament, Akmal Nasrullah said the memorandum had been handed over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
Among other demands made include mandating the MACC chief appointee to declare assets before confirmation of the appointment, and amending the Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA) 2010 to ensure better protection of informants.
