AIN's life was shattered when she suffered a stroke, leaving the 42-year-old mother of three semi-paralysed.

To make things worse, her husband left and without anyone to depend on, the family survived on porridge and ketchup.

The water and electricity supply to their dilapidated home was also disconnected.

Both Ain's parents had passed on and she was left alone to care for her kids, who were also forced to drop out of school.

Fortunately, Ain's plight reached the ears of Miri MP Chiew Choon Man who related the sad story to PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

"As a woman and mother, I was very disturbed after hearing Ain's situation and also the fact that her husband was so irresponsible and left the family in such a situation.

"I felt deeply for Ain and wanted to help her restore her dignity as a woman," said Izzah.

Izzah then managed to raise RM10,000 for Ain and also reached out to some Good Samaritans to cover the cost of her children's schooling.

The family also receives Sara food assistance every month now, while water and electricity has also been restored to their home.

However, getting Ain a job was not easy and after 46 failed interviews because of her disability, Izzah helped her open a burger stall in Miri.

"We helped her with all the equipment she needed and Chiew even coached her on how to flip a burger.

"Today, Ain is able to earn a decent living and is back on her feet as a woman with dignity and strength to build a future with her children," added Izzah. - September 21, 2025
