KOTA Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas has called on the police to form a specific enforcement arm to rein in cyberbullies and trollers.
This after another incident of a Tik Tok social media user being abused on December 8 at a McDonalds outlet in Serdang Raya.
Earlier, there was an alleged vandalising of a house in Penang - both incidents were captured live by Tik Tok users and livestreamed for several hours.
"This has to stop and the only way is for the the police to set up a separate division to fight cyber criminals and cyberbullies."
Preakas told a press conference that the victim in Serdang, A. Rani was physically assaulted, and the entire episode filmed and loaded onto the Tik Tok livestream.
The incident was reloaded from time to time although Preakas believes that the assault video subsequently removed by the alleged cyberbullies.
Rani is a 45-year old McDonalds employee, who is disabled and had lost her only child earlier in January.
As a result of the trauma, she is now on psychiatric medication.
"Malaysia's online environment must remain safe, respectful and humane. It is the duty of every citizen to contribute to that standard and to uphold the dignity of our digital-powered community."
Preakas said a police report was lodged by Rani but until now, no arrests have been made.
He urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take the necessary steps to safeguard social media users.
On that fateful night, Rani had earlier exchanged sharp words over a Tik Tok livestream account.
It irked some Tik Tokers, who then located her work address and around the evening of December 8, they stormed into Rani's workplace and physically assaulted her for several minutes.
The episode was livestream during Rani's ordeal.
She now suffers from chronic pain in parts of the body after she was apparently punched and slapped by the cyberbullies.
Preakas said that the authorities might also need to consider taking legal action against Tik Tok for condoning such violence. - December 18, 2025.
