A FAMILY in Melaka has expressed appreciation to a doctor from Petaling Jaya who travelled all the way to assist a cancer patient.

Though he lost his wife, Siti Noracikin Zakaria, 41, to stomach cancer on Monday, Redhuan Abdul Rashid, 42, the husband, said the gesture deeply touched him and his family during a difficult Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

“My children are very sad that their mother is no longer with them. I consider this the will of Allah.

“However, I want to express my gratitude to Dr KM Gannesh, who assisted us during these trying times,” he said.

Redhuan is now focused on supporting his five sons, aged between six and 21, and plans to set up a small reflexology centre at home to generate income.

"I am considered a disabled person as I am partially blind after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2022.

“I will try to raise about RM20,000 with some help from family and friends to renovate a room and purchase equipment,” he said.

He said the family was especially moved by the willingness of people from various races to offer assistance.

“We were touched to see Dr Gannesh's effort to help, and it meant a great deal to us,” he said.

Hang Tuah Jaya PKR chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who had visited Siti Noracikin at her home in Sungai Udang on March 10 with financial aid and festive contributions, said the whole incident happened very fast.

"I did not expect that the person I spoke to just days ago would be gone so soon,” he said.

He said Siti Noracikin had remained hopeful of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri with her children, noting that her youngest child had asked if she would be with them for the occasion.

“Now I can only pray that her soul rests in peace,” he said.
