A VIDEO showing the reaction of an elderly man who was distressed after being informed of his wife's death has since gone viral on social media, making many netizens teary-eyed.

The couple's granddaughter, Adlina Azli, 25, said the video was recorded the moment her mother, Norazaliza Awang, informed her father-in-law, Suratman, 77, that his wife had passed away.

According to Adlina, at the time of the incident, her grandfather had just finished praying before being informed of the passing of her grandmother, Siti Hamsaton, who had been bedridden for three years.

"Grandpa couldn't believe it. Before praying, he was chatting with grandma, and because grandma had been bedridden for a long time, grandpa thought she was sleeping.

"Grandpa told mum to check it out because he didn't believe grandma had passed away," she told Sinar Harian.

According to her, Suratman's reaction after receiving the news also surprised family members.

This is because the 77-year-old man is known as a strong and resilient family head.

"Mom reminded grandpa to be strong because grandma had been sick for a long time. But when grandma left, grandpa became so distressed and broke down.

"When I saw grandpa weeping and so sad, mom also became weak," she said.

Adlina said that the loving relationship between her grandfather and grandmother was very special throughout their life as husband and wife.

According to her, Suratman never scolded his wife and always tried to fulfil whatever the deceased wished for.

"Every time it was grandma's birthday, grandpa would plan a surprise and buy her a gift. Even until the end of his life, grandfather still called his grandmother affectionately.

"When grandmother was sick, grandfather was willing to spend tens of thousands of ringgit to get the best treatment, including medical and Islamic treatment," she said.

Siti Hamsaton passed away on June 12 and was buried at the Felda Sungai Kemahal Cemetery, Triang, Pahang.

Adlina said the video was intended to share a moment that showcased the profound love between her grandfather and grandmother throughout their lives. – June 16, 2026
