AN elderly man was charged in the Sessions Court, Kota Bahru, today with five counts of raping and sexually assaulting his 12-year-old granddaughter in Bachok from January to this month.

The 79-year-old accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out before Judge Zulkifli Abllah, reported Berita Harian.

According to the first, third, fourth and fifth charges, the accused was charged with raping the 12-year-old victim.

The act took place in a bedroom at a house in Kampung Panchor Gunong Timor, Bachok, between 8.28 am and 1.30 pm on January 11 to June 4, 2026.

The accused was charged under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code (Act 574) and can be punished under Section 376(2) of the same act, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and also whipping.

For the second charge, the accused is charged with having sex by inserting an eggplant into the genitals of the same victim without her consent at the same location at 1.30 pm on January 11.

For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 377CA of the Penal Code Act 574, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Syafiqah Mohamad, while the accused was not represented.
