VETERAN entertainment and fashion journalist Datuk Kee Hua Chee died last Thursday, March 23 in his hometown of Kuala Krai, Kelantan, after battling a long illness.

Close friends confirmed that he passed away from pneumonia and complications from diabetes.

Kee's close friend, event organiser Mi-Ki Choong, confirmed his death on Facebook.

"It is with a heavy heart that I have been tasked to make a formal announcement of the passing of a dear friend, Datuk Kee Hua Chee. He left us at 11.45am yesterday in Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

"His extended family will be cremating him today, and his ashes will be placed along with his father's ashes in Kelantan, where he was born and raised."

Another close friend, event organiser Datuk Nancy Yeoh, shared news of his passing.

"With great sadness, we inform you that our much-loved Datuk Kee Hua Chee has returned to be with his Lord. He passed away from diabetes pneumonia in Kelantan."

Kee, who worked as a journalist for almost three decades, was well-known for his associations with famous Malaysians such as royalty, politicians, entrepreneurs, performers, models, and fashion designers.

He was a regular in several high-end publications and excelled at celebrity interviews. He also assisted in the organisation and promotion of fashion events, award shows, and beauty pageants.

Associates and colleagues have been sharing their fond memories of working with him. Miss Malaysia Kebaya founder Jason Hee wrote on social media that the annual beauty contest had lost a close friend it had known for over a decade.

"We all will miss you Datuk. Thank you for your support in modelling, beauty pageants and award events."
