THE Prime Minister's Senior Political Secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin stressed that nobody is above the law and urged the authorities to investigate former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"Investigate all those with the title 'Tun' starting with Dr Mahathir and his family.

"Dr Mahathir's sarcastic statement that all those with the title 'Tun' should be remanded until they reveal the source of their money shows just how arrogant he is," he said in a statement on X.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir said all 'Tuns' should be investigated and if they cannot explain where or how they got the money, their property should be seized.

Commenting with sarcasm, he said obtaining documentary evidence of their misdeeds was unnecessary and that suspicions alone should be enough.

“Tuns should not only be investigated. They should also be remanded until they reveal the source of their money. If they don’t, it must be because they are hiding,” he had said in a post on X.

Dr Mahathir’s remarks come after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) seizure of the 60-storey Menara Ilham owned by the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.

"Dr Mahathir has never been comfortable with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim since 1998. This is because Anwar, who was then Finance Minister, refused to bail out companies owned by Dr Mahathir's children during the Asian economic crisis in 1997.

"This then led to the sacking of Anwar, triggering a political crisis which is going on till today," said Shamsul.

However, he said if the statement by Dr Mahathir that all 'Tuns' be investigated is sincere, investigations should start with him and his children.

"We also need to re-investigate the cases of misappropriation of funds and losses of Perwaja Steel, the Bakun hydroelectric project, MISC Berhad, PKFZ, and Maminco as well as cases involving his children such as Kenchana Petroleum," he added. - The Vibes, December 28, 2023
