THE new Penang Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership has pledged to work hard to strengthen the confidence and trust of the people.

Nurul Izzah Anwar and Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said they hope to achieve this by enhancing the social economics and finance ecosystems and integrating education and economic activities with the digital and STEM education landscapes.

"This will be geared towards achieving the Penang 2030 vision as outlined by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow," they said in a joint statement.

Izzah, who is PKR vice-president, was recently appointed to lead Penang PKR as part of the party's restructuring exercise involving several states.

Mohamad, who is also the Penang Deputy Chief Minister I was appointed as the Penang PKR deputy chief, taking over from Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who is Balik Pulau member of parliament since 2018.

“We will also focus on promoting the unity government at the state level by working closely with relevant agencies, Village Community Management Councils (JPKK), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"As leaders entrusted to spearhead Penang, we accept this responsibility with much humility and appreciation.

"Together, we will embark on greater efforts to strengthen PKR's presence and initiate meaningful reforms to improve the lives of communities both in Seberang Perai and the island," they said.

The duo said they will also embark on an institutional reform agenda to promote greater governance.

"We also want to build a more cohesive and united ecosystem across communities and Penangites - from different groups and backgrounds.

"To this end, we are doing our best to prevent false information and extremism from reaching communities through our local infrastructure, a network of mosques and suraus, along with internal party information channels," they added. - The Vibes, February 21, 2024
