WISMA PUTRA has called for all quarters, including the party that had leaked a confidential diplomatic note, to cease from doing so in view of the negative effect the incident may have on the global community’s confidence in Malaysia’s image and integrity.
It stressed that the leak of the communique received by the Malaysian embassy in Morocco did not take place from within the Foreign Ministry’s ranks.
It said that it views with “utmost concern and deep regret” the dissemination of the confidential diplomatic note dated September 20, 2023 which was received by the embassy in Rabat, the capital city of the sub-Saharan country.
In a statement this evening, it decried the act, describing it as irresponsible.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently underscored the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of diplomatic communication with friendly nations and other international partners, and considers the unauthorised dissemination of such documents an irresponsible act.
“The results of an internal investigation have revealed that unauthorised dissemination did not originate from within the Ministry,” it said.
The ministry added that it has provided clarification to the “concerned partner country” and expressed its deep regret over the incident.
Simultaneously, a police report has been filed to initiate investigations.
The ministry assured that it is committed to offering full cooperation to the authorities throughout the investigative process.
“In light of the potential negative impact on the international community's confidence in Malaysia's image and integrity that such an action can cause, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges an immediate halt to the circulation of the document,” it said. – The Vibes, February 21, 2024
