KUALA LUMPUR – Budget 2021 is being seen as political revenge against Penang as three major infrastructure projects in the state have been put on hold, said Lim Hui Ying in the Dewan Negara today.

During the Budget debate, she said the state is being denied an opportunity to carry out development projects and that the three projects were approved in Budget 2020.

“The people view this as revenge politics against the Penang government.”

The Penang International Airport extension project costing RM800 million has been postponed until 2023, and the airport is already coping with an overcapacity of 30%.

She said the Penang Hill cable car is identified as a major tourist attraction, but its RM100 million project has been scrapped.

The other project is the state’s light rail transit (LRT) initiatives, where Putrajaya did not proceed with the government guarantee for a RM2-billion loan from the Asian Development Bank.

“If the federal government can approve the Pan Borneo Highway project, Seremban-Johor Baru dual-track electric rail project, RM6-billion LRT project in Kuching and the monorail project in Putrajaya, why cancel the projects in Penang?”

She said the nation is facing a difficult economic situation and the federal government’s actions will further damage the Penang government. – The Vibes, December 17, 2020
