PARTI Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s women wing (Wanita PBB) has kickstarted preparations for the next Sarawak election.

Wanita PBB chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah announced that all Wanita PBB branches throughout Sarawak must start compiling the latest data on voters in all the state constituencies.

She gave the directive when chairing the Wanita PBB central leadership meeting in Sibu town in central Sarawak last night.

“The next state election is due in 2026.

“That may sound like we still have time since it is about two years away but there are new voters emerging all the time.

“The automatic registration of any citizens above 18 as new voters is already in effect.

“We need to gather as much information about them and their locations now.

“We must start reaching out to them and create awareness of what Gabungan Parti Sarawak is struggling for,” she said.

Fatimah, who is state women, family and community welfare minister, said Wanita PBB wants to recruit as many new young female voters as its members.

“We need to strengthen our grassroots in all constituencies.

“Increasing our membership is one of the key targets,” she said.

PBB is the backbone component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

The other components are Sarawak United Peoples’ Party, Progressive Democratic Party and Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

Sarawak presently has 82 state and 31 parliamentary constituencies.

However, the Election Commission is conducting a redelineation exercise now for the state and parliamentary constituencies. – July 1, 2024.
