POLICE are still investigating the motive behind the kidnapping of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui on July 20.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said more information about the case will only be shared once the investigation is complete.

“Every act of crime must have a motive. The police have since remanded the suspect and I will convey the latest information from time to time,” he said at the Johor police contingent headquarters today.

He added that the medical report on Albertine confirmed that the child was rescued unharmed.

“Investigations are still ongoing and he did not want to reveal anything to jeopardise the investigations,” he said, adding that solving Albertine’s abduction case is a significant success by the Johor police.

Albertine went missing at a Bon Odori event in a mall in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Baru at 8.30pm on July 20 and was rescued from a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor at 4.45pm on July 23.

Yesterday, the 31-year-old male suspect, who was arrested when found with the victim in the budget hotel, was remanded until this Sunday.

Four other suspects, consisting of two men and two women, ages ranging from 28 to 55, have since been released on police bail.

The four were earlier remanded for four days until last Friday after their remand period was not extended. – July 30, 2024.
