HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has appointed a special officer to oversee his ministry’s affairs in Sarawak and Sabah.

That officer appointed today is Tay Wei Wei, who is Sarawak PKR information chief.

The home minister, who is also from PKR, appointed Tay to the post effective immediately.

In a press statement, Tay said he will fulfill his duties and responsibilities to the best of his abilities.

The specific duties that he will assume in Sarawak and Sabah are being outlined by the minister.

On August 11, PKR set up its Sarawak state elections committee to prepare for the upcoming state polls, due in 2026, but may be called much earlier than anticipated.

The committee was set up following a state-level leadership meeting in state capital Kuching that day.

Tay said the party is preparing early for the Sarawak election as it wants to get its ground machinery going as soon as possible.

“Our 31 PKR branches throughout Sarawak are now in preparation mode for the coming Sarawak state election.

“Today, we called 400 of the leaders of the branches to come for this state-level meeting.

“We have set up the Sarawak state elections committee complete with the office bearers and line-up to oversee the various subcommittees that will handle the tasks assigned for the ground preparations,” he had told reporters.

Tay said the committee has members from all urban and rural districts.

He said this Sarawak state elections committee will also prepare for the next general election, which will see contests for parliamentary seats in Sarawak.

Sarawak is the only state that holds its state polls separately from the national general election. – August 13, 2024.
