DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Sabah government to ensure the RM6.7 billion in federal funds allocated for the state's development is used efficiently.
The prime minister said that Sabah, which received its highest-ever allocation must ensure these funds are directed effectively to address critical infrastructure needs across the state.
Anwar said he was aware of the challenges in dealing with Sabah's underdevelopment.
“This is a big state, and many areas are still considered underdeveloped. We have to spend huge funds on infrastructure projects, and Alhamdulillah, they are almost completed in Sarawak. However, a bit more push is needed for Sabah,” Anwar said.
When tabling the 2025 national budget yesterday, Anwar said Sabah will be getting RM6.7 billion for development expenditure.
The Prime Minister also reminded the state on the importance of transparency and efficiency in the implementation of these projects, warning against unnecessary delays and financial losses.
He urged Sabah’s officials to ensure the federal budget is managed responsibly, without wastage or corruption.
“Your task is to make sure that it is implemented efficiently, and transparently. We don't have any unnecessary losses due to delays or wastage.
"It is not your responsibility to make sure it works—it is our collective responsibility as a team,” Anwar added. - October 19, 2024
