A COUPLE that tried to drive through a flooded location in central Sarawak found themselves and their baby trapped in more than a metre of water.

The incident happened at about 7.30 am along the Sibu to Kanowit road today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a press update, said the flooded area is located about 30 km from Kanowit town.

"Our Bomba station received an emergency call for help and rushed a unit to the site where we found a car trapped in about a metre of water.

"Our rescue personnel managed to reach the car and found a man, woman and their four-month-old baby girl inside.

"We used floating devices to pull them out of the flood waters,”.

The couple was heading to Kanowit from Sibu when the incident occurred.

"After driving about 130 metres through the floods, the car engine stopped as flood waters got deeper," said the department.

The man and his wife were identified as Mohamad Syaiful Ibrahim and Suria Rosli and their baby is Aliana Afisa.

The trio were unhurt and have been taken to a safe location. - January 13, 2025
