PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the urgent acceleration of initiatives aimed at addressing flood mitigation and eradicating extreme poverty.

In a recent meeting with the staff of the Prime Minister's Department, Anwar emphasised the importance of prioritising these critical efforts for the well-being of the people.

To expedite progress, Anwar revealed that he had directed the Treasury to provide greater flexibility in funding, enabling faster implementation of the projects. In collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, the government is working to streamline procedures, including speeding up the pre-approval processes to avoid unnecessary delays.

A key focus, according to Anwar, is the need to improve the efficiency of tendering procedures, which are often seen as time-consuming.

While he acknowledged the tendency to explore alternative methods, such as direct negotiations, he stressed that this approach could lead to significant risks, including errors and financial leakage.

"The tender process may be slower, but it is more transparent and less prone to issues that could compromise the integrity of the projects," he told Bernama today.

Anwar’s remarks highlight the government's commitment to swiftly addressing the needs of communities affected by natural disasters like floods, which often leave those in vulnerable areas with limited time and resources.

With the priority of improving lives, the Prime Minister's push for faster action reflects his determination to ensure these essential projects are completed without delay. - February 10, 2025
