SARAWAK will be assertive in fighting for more parliamentary seats to make a greater impact in  Parliament, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

PBB, as the backbone of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak state government, will be firm in pushing for this increase in seats for Sarawak in the Dewan Rakyat, he said.

These matters were raised during the PBB triennial delegates conference in Kuching over the weekend, he told reporters.

"Negotiations for increased in parliamentary seats are still ongoing and must be stepped up.

"Sarawak and also Sabah deserve the right to have an increased presence in the Dewan Rakyat.

"These are among our struggles in getting more rights at the national level," he said.

The PBB has also approved a motion to set up a party presidential council that will be responsible for making fast decisions during political urgencies.

The other key resolutions are that PBB will continue to defend Sarawak's autonomous control of immigration matters, its control over resources on state land and the state coastal shores and autonomy over education and health. – February 17, 2025
