Muhyiddin: PAS to field candidate in Ayer Kuning
"The seat belongs to the party, and they will decide who the candidate is," said Muhyiddin, February 28, 2025

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that PAS would contest for the coalition in the Ayer Kuning by-election next month.

He said the seat has been traditionally contested by PAS in the previous elections and the coalition decided not to make any changes for the March 7 election, reported The New Straits Times.

"Though PAS contested before and didn't win, we won't make any changes based on what was previously agreed upon. Let it stay the same.

"The seat belongs to the party, and they will decide who the candidate is. We will assess the candidate, and if they are suitable, we will support them," Muhyiddin said.

The by-election will be held to fill the vacancy following the death of Ayer Kuning assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin, 59, from Umno on February 22, 2025..

Ishsam died after he suffered a heart attack at a football match at the City Stadium in Penang on Saturday.

The Election Commission earlier said it has officially been notified by the Speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly regarding the vacancy in the N.48 Ayer Kuning seat.

A special meeting will be held on March 7, 2025 (Friday) to discuss the implementation and procedures of the election. – February 28, 2025
