UMNO will remain unaffected by the investigation into the corruption case involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, according to its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, emphasised that this case is an individual matter and does not involve the party.

"This is not a concern for our leadership or UMNO members. We see it as a personal issue, not an official one," he stated during a press conference after an Iftar ceremony with the UMNO Supreme Council.

Ahmad Zahid reiterated that UMNO is not linked to the money and gold bars seized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in this case.

"There is no direct link to UMNO's political funds or collections. We will let the MACC handle the follow-up actions, and any legal proceedings will be managed by them and the Attorney-General's Chambers," he added.

Earlier, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki reported that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in a corruption and money laundering investigation, following the discovery of around RM170 million in cash during a raid.

The investigation focuses on the spending and funding for promotional activities while he was in office.

The MACC had previously seized approximately RM170 million in various currencies and 16 kilograms of gold bars valued at nearly RM7 million. – March 12, 2025
