BARISAN Nasional (BN) will announce its candidate for the Ayer Kuning State Assembly by-election on April 5.

Perak BN chairman, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, said on the same day, they will also launch the election machinery for the by-election.

According to him, the candidate announcement will be in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration organised by Tapah Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri M Saravanan.

"Saravanan organises the celebration every year, so we join in.

"On April 5, we will launch the machinery and on the same day we will announce the candidate," he said.

He said this after completing the Meriah Beraya Sejahtera Bersama Program at the Dato' Kamaruddin Hall, Bidor, here, on Sunday.According to him, PAS and the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) cannot deny that they have previously collaborated with the DAP.

BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan earlier said BN had shortlisted six candidates for the by-election and each had their respective strengths and weaknesses.

As the incumbent party, he said the party’s senior leadership will consider, study and take public views on the six candidates into account before making a final decision.

The Ayer Kuning by-election was called following the death of its assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, who died on Feb 22 after he collapsed while playing a football friendly match at City Stadium, Penang. - March 16, 2025
