FIVE people were killed, including a couple and their two-year-old daughter, in an accident involving four vehicles, including a trailer, at kilometer 58.1, of the Plus highway southbound, at 11:30pm yesterday.

Kluang District Police Chief, Bahrin Mohd Noh, said that three other children, aged nine, seven, and four, who were in the Honda Stepwagon Spada, were seriously injured.

He said that the driver of the Proton X50 and the front passenger also died in the accident.

"Based on initial investigations, the 35-year-old trailer driver was on his way from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur and upon arriving at the scene, the front right tyre of the vehicle burst, causing him to lose control.

"The trailer is said to have collided with a Toyota Camry that was on the same lane before the vehicle entered the opposite lane and collided with the Proton X50 and Honda Stepwagon Spada.

"Both cars were heading towards Johor Bahru."

As a result of the accident, the Honda Stepwagon Spada caught fire, but the passengers and driver were removed from the vehicle before the fire spread," he said in a statement.

He said the driver of the Honda Stepwagon Spada, Nasaarudin Pardi, 36, and his wife, Siti Khazira Bani, 35, died while on the way to the hospital, while their child, Mariam Nasarudin, 2, died at the scene.

The driver of the Proton X50, Iklil Nuraudah Muhammad Redzaa, 23, who did not have a driving license, and his passenger, a man believed to be in his 20s, who was severely injured died at the scene.

"The trailer driver, who was injured in the right leg and waist, along with the couple's three children - two boys and one girl who were severely injured were taken to the Kluang Hospital for treatment," he said.

He said the male 38-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry, and the 25-year-old female passenger along with a two-year-old boy, were injured.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987. - March 28, 2025
