Why not Umno dissolve and join Bersatu? – Muhyiddin

THERE is no need for Bersatu to dissolve and join Umno as suggested by some Umno veterans, said its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said, Bersatu is not a former Umno party and there is no need for it to dissolve.

"Why ask us to dissolve Bersatu, we are not ex-Umno, in fact Bersatu has more parliamentary seats compared to Umno and no fewer State Assemblymen (ADUNs).

"Bersatu has also formed Perikatan Nasional (PN), as well as the states of Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu under PN, why do we need to dissolve?

"PN exists as a legal political organisation and we have no problems in this regard," he told a press conference after officiating the Jeram Padang DUN PN Coordinator's Office.

Muhyiddin said Bersatu also stands by the basic principles of their struggles not to cooperate with the DAP.

He said that although some claimed that Bersatu used to cooperate with the DAP, it was short-lived because Bersatu decided to leave the DAP and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"My question is, why doesn’t Umno just dissolve and join Bersatu," he said.

Asked about cooperation with Umno, Muhyiddin, who is also the Pagoh Member of Parliament, said he did not want to issue any statements now as the issue must be discussed in the political bureau and the Supreme Leadership Council of the party and PN.

"There are several complicated issues that need to be discussed, and it is not that easy to make a statement though in principle Bersatu is ready to cooperate with any party that shares its struggles," he added. – May 3, 2025
