THEY drive luxury cars - a BMW and Ford Mustang but claim they do not have the money to renew their road tax and insurance.

This is what the drivers of the two cars told Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) personnel when they were stopped during an operation recently around the Kajang-Cheras Highway.

In the operation that started from 2pm to 11pm, JPJ detained the Ford Mustang and BMW X5, in separate inspections at the location.

Selangor JPJ Director, Azrin Borhan said that the inspection results found that both vehicles committed the same offense, namely driving without a valid road tax and insurance coverage.

“The driver of the Ford Mustang is a local man in his early 30s who was unable to renew his road tax because he had outstanding summonses and had been blacklisted.

"Another vehicle, a BMW X5, driven by an individual in his 40s, was also detected committing the same offence when the vehicle's road tax expired more than a year ago and there was no insurance coverage," he said.

According to Azrin, the two individuals involved claimed to be experiencing financial problems which was the reason they failed to renew their documents despite driving a luxury vehicle worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit.

“All vehicles have been seized and taken to JPJ Shah Alam for further action. JPJ will not compromise with any party including luxury vehicle owners who disobey the laws,” he stressed. - June 16, 2025
