BARISAN Nasional (BN) Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has proposed that at least one State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat be provided for Sabah BN candidates for each parliamentary constituency in the 17th State Election (PRN17).

Mohamad, who is also UMNO Deputy President, said the proposal is the wish of UMNO-BN Sabah to ensure that each Parliament in the state is represented by at least one candidate from the party.

“Unlike the last PRN, there are several parliamentary constituencies or divisions that are not represented at all by BN candidates. This situation can weaken the morale of UMNO-BN members and machinery in the areas concerned because they have no role during the election.

“When not given the opportunity, some may be disappointed and end up choosing to leave the party and this is not good.

“If in a Parliament there are two or three DUN seats, at least one seat should be given to BN to contest. This can boost the morale of party members in the areas concerned,” he said in Membakut today.

Mohamad said the matter would be discussed in more depth at the highest level. - August 2, 2025
