POLICE shot dead a man believed to be the mastermind behind a robbery and housebreaking incident at Jalan Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur early this morning.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Acting Director Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 36-year-old suspect had 44 previous criminal records, including drug-related, and had been active in housebreaking and robbery since last year around Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak, involving losses exceeding RM1 million.
According to him, the man involved was spotted driving a BMW car at the scene of the incident by a team from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) and the Kuala Lumpur Contingent JSJ who were carrying out crime prevention tasks through Op Api KL 3/2025 at 4.10 am today, reported Bernama.
"While attempting to overtake the vehicle, a gunfight broke out which resulted in the suspect's death at the scene. Several gunshot wounds were also detected on the police vehicle," he said.
An inspection of the suspect's vehicle found a revolver, several equipment believed to have been used for the robbery, and a police vest.
Fadil said checks found that the BMW vehicle had a fake registration number and was believed to have been smuggled in from abroad.
He said initial investigations showed that the criminal group involved targeted residential homes and business premises containing safes, gold bars and cash, and was believed to have also disguised themselves as police officers to carry out their activities.
"We believe that this group is also involved in a drug trafficking syndicate and has dozens of members. Efforts to track down the remaining members of the group are underway," he said. - August 6, 2025
