A BUSINESSMAN with a ‘Datuk’ title was among those detainted by the Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) in 'Ops Luxury' implemented throughout this year.
Its director, Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said, during that period, a total 106 luxury vehicles of various brands including Range Rover, Porsche Macan, BMW7 Series, Mercedes-Benz, Audi A-Series and Toyota Alphard were seized.
"The estimated price of some of the seized vehicles, especially models under the Land Rover brand, is between RM500,000 and RM1.2 million.
"Most owners, when detained, gave the excuse that they forgot or did not remember to renew their Motor Vehicle License (LKM) and insurance," he said in a press conference at JPJ Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday.
He stressed that such an excuse is unacceptable since every vehicle owner will receive a notification via the MyJPJ system before the LKM period expires.
He explained that owners who want to claim their seized vehicles must resolve all outstanding blacklists or summonses in addition to renewing the LKM and insurance.
"If they fail to do so within three months, JPJ will have to refer to the court for forfeiture action.
"As a result of the enforcement, the number of luxury vehicles seized this year has increased by 80 percent compared to last year which only recorded 20 vehicles," he said.
He added that the enforcement action involved vehicle owners aged between 35 and 55 years, mostly businessmen, contractors and sales executives.
He said that based on statistics throughout this year, there were 102 violations of expired LKM, 89 of no insurance, 32 with no Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and two more expired CDLs.
Hanif Yusabra said Ops Luxury is an integrated enforcement action at the national level and will continue from time to time to curb the trend of ownership and use of luxury vehicles that are not legally registered or trying to evade paying road tax. – December 24, 2025
