THE Ministry of Communications will seek clarification from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following the arrest of two individuals described as ‘media practitioners’ allegedly linked to a smuggling syndicate operating in southern Malaysia.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said his ministry would act if it was determined that the use of official media accreditation cards was in breach of any terms.
“I have not yet received details from the MACC. I will be contacting them to verify the matter,” he said.
“If it is found that any conditions related to the media accreditation card have been violated, I will instruct the Information Department to take appropriate action. For now, we are awaiting an official update from the MACC,” Fahmi added.
The two individuals in question were among ten arrested under the MACC’s “Op Sohor” operation.
Yesterday, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the suspects acted as facilitators by relaying information to parties involved in smuggling activities. - August 16, 2025
