THE parents of two children who drowned after the car they were in slid into Sungai Linggi in Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson yesterday have been detained to assist in the investigation.
Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 46-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were detained following discrepancies in their statements regarding the incident.
“A check found that the male suspect had 16 previous criminal records including four outstanding cases related to fraud and other crimes, while the female suspect had no criminal record.
“Urine tests on both of them were found negative, but a check on the car used found that it was the same vehicle reported missing in Nusa Bestari, Johor in 2022,” he said.
According to him, both suspects will be brought to the Seremban Court for a remand application and the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He added that members of the public with information can contact the Port Dickson District Police Headquarters at 06-6472222 or investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Husairin Che Hussin at 012-965 4927 to assist in the investigation.
It was earlier reported that two siblings, aged six and eight, drowned after the car they were travelling in with their parents slid into the river.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, the car was parked on the riverbank with the engine turned off while the victim's father went out for a short smoke break.
Both victims are believed to have been trapped in the vehicle and drowned, while the victim's mother, who was also in the car, was rescued by the public. - September 5, 2025
