TWO separate drowning incidents have been reported near Teluk Intan, Perak, with the victims identified as a seven-year-old boy and a 24-year-old ship worker.
In the first case, a young boy was found drowned early this morning after he is believed to have fallen into a large roadside drain in the village of Labu Kubong, Jalan Chenderong Balai.
According to the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, the child is thought to have fallen into the two-metre-deep drain sometime between 5pm and 6pm yesterday.
“Villagers had earlier tried to locate the victim but failed,” said acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah.
“Firefighters later found the body at the bottom of the drain, about 800 metres from where he was reported to have fallen.”
The Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station received a distress call at 12.23am.
The boy’s body was recovered and handed over to police for further action. The operation concluded at approximately 4.10am.
In a separate incident, also in Teluk Intan, the body of 24-year-old Neoh Jun Jie was found floating in Sungai Perak late Tuesday night, not far from a sand dredging vessel.
The victim, employed as a tyre fitter on a cargo ship, is believed to have drowned after falling into the river while carrying out repairs on the vessel.
“The victim is believed to have drowned after falling into the river while installing tyres on a ship under repair,” said Shazlean.
“The estimated distance from the ship to the riverbank is 10 metres.”
The department was alerted by a fisherman at 9.18pm. Neoh’s body was recovered at 9.58pm and handed over to police. The rescue operation was officially called off at 10.40pm.
The initial distress call was received at 4.20pm on Tuesday, and a search-and-rescue operation commenced shortly after at 4.41pm.- September 24, 2025
