A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was killed and his teenage friend seriously injured in a six-vehicle collision on the North-South Expressway near Ayer Hitam early Saturday morning, while four others were hurt in a separate crash involving five vehicles in Simpang Renggam late Friday night.

In the first incident, Muhammad Ammar Zafran Khairul Nizam, 14, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend, the 16-year-old rider, sustained serious injuries to his hands and legs and is being treated at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang.

According to Batu Pahat District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, the accident occurred at around 2.30am at KM75.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) when three motorcycles travelling together reportedly collided with one another.

“As a result of the collision, the teenagers were thrown onto the road. At that moment, a bus, a van, and a car coming from the same direction were unable to avoid them and ran over the victims,” he said in a statement.

He confirmed that Muhammad Ammar Zafran sustained severe head, arm and leg injuries and died at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Meanwhile, in a separate crash in Simpang Renggam, four people — three men and one woman — were injured following a five-vehicle pile-up at Batu 5 late Friday night.

Renggam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Senior Fire Officer II Shoromi Salih, said the emergency services received a distress call at 10.06pm.

“A team with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and five firefighters was dispatched to the scene, located 10 kilometres from the station,” he said.

The collision involved a Toyota Hilux, a Proton Saga, a Perodua Myvi, a Proton X50 and a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle.

“All injured victims were successfully extricated using stretchers, and there were no cases of entrapment. They were then handed over to medical personnel and transported to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom for further treatment,” he added.

Eight other individuals involved in the crash were unharmed. The rescue operation concluded at 11.07pm after ensuring the scene was safe. - October12, 2025
