MCA will field homegrown candidates who understand the needs and aspirations of the people of Sabah in the 17th State Election (PRN) next month, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the candidates the party will field are also individuals who were born and rooted in Sabah and have a good service record in their respective constituencies.

"What is important is that they are known and have served in the constituency for a long time," he told the media after attending the Penang MCA Annual General Meeting on Saturday as reported by Bernama.

Ka Siong said the list of MCA candidates for the Sabah PRN had been discussed at the Barisan Nasional (BN) level and was now awaiting final confirmation before being announced.

He expects the official announcement to be made before nomination day on November 15, while the launch of the election machinery is scheduled about a week earlier.

Previously, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have said that BN would field candidates from MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) to contest the state general election.

Meanwhile, Ka Siong stressed that MCA remains part of the BN family and dismissed any speculation that the party would leave the coalition.

"So far there are no issues. Each party has its own dynamics, but any changes will be discussed according to procedure and in depth. What is important now is to focus on the work ahead of the Sabah state election," he said. - October 18, 2025
