PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has received an outpouring of appreciation from Cambodians on social media following the signing of the KL Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia yesterday.

The comments, posted on the official Facebook page of Anwar, as well as the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO Malaysia) page, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Malaysia’s role in facilitating the historic peace agreement aimed at restoring stability and trust along the Thai-Cambodian border.

“Many thanks for your hardwork in helping us,” wrote Facebook user Keo Dalis.

Another user, Hei Nail, commented, “Thank you very much for organising the peace deal,” while Teav Kim Leamg wrote, “I’m one of the Cambodian people.

Thank you so much for your kindness in always helping and supporting Cambodia in finding peace.”

Messages of appreciation continued to pour in throughout the day, with many users describing the peace accord as a new chapter for regional harmony.

The post also saw Malaysian users joining in to commend Anwar’s leadership in fostering regional peace and diplomacy. One user remarked: “Ramai member aku yang Cambodia dan Thai ‘like’ bila aku share pasal ni hari ini . congratulations, PMX” (“A lot of my Cambodian and Thai friends liked my Facebook post about this today, congratulations, PMX”), while another prayed that the accord would bring “manfaat kepada ummah dan negara tercinta” (“benefit to the ummah and our beloved country”).

The KL Peace Accord, signed on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit, marks a significant step in rebuilding bilateral trust between Thailand and Cambodia after years of tension, reported Bernama.

Malaysia, which chaired the ASEAN Summit this year, played a mediating role in facilitating the discussions that led to the historic agreement.

Meanwhile, Anwar, commenting on the signing ceremony in the same posting, described the event as “a historic moment”, adding that this milestone represents a triumph of ASEAN diplomacy and a continuation of the ceasefire concluded in Putrajaya on July 28, in our collective pursuit of peace and regional stability.

Anwar also expressed appreciation to regional and international partners, including President Donald Trump, whose engagement encouraged both Cambodian and Thai leaders to take steps towards reconciliation.

He further stressed the importance of extending this peace agenda to other conflict-ridden regions, particularly Gaza, so that justice and humanity may once again anchor global order.

“This accord stands as a testament to ASEAN’s growing voice as a bridge for peace, proving that moderation and dialogue can resolve even the most entrenched disputes,” he added. – October 27, 2025
