DAP will launch its machinery for the Sabah General Election tomorrow and also announce its candidates at the Mangellan Sutera Resort in Kota Kinabalu.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke is expected to be present along with Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe.

Sabah DAP Deputy Chairman, Datuk Chan Foong Hin had earlier said that two of the eight seats are new one that the party will contest, including the Tanjung Aru state seat and another in an interior area which has not been announced yet.

Chan said that six of the seats were incumbent seats, including the Sri Tanjung and Elopura state assembly seats, which will see new faces after the previous incumbents left the party and joined Warisan.

“In addition, Tanjung Papat will also feature a new face after former Sabah DAP chairman, Datuk Frankie Poon, left the party,” he said.

According to him, Sabah DAP still maintains its commitment to the participation of women and youth, in line with the party’s policy which stipulates that at least one-third of candidates are women.

He also said that Poon's resignation would not affect the strength of DAP Sandakan.

Chan also ruled out the possibility that Poon will join Warisan, but there is a possibility that he will contest on an independent ticket or join another party.

"I don't see him joining Warisan. Maybe he will join another party or contest independently. That is his personal right. For DAP, we will continue the struggle without any problems," he said.

He also stressed that the DAP candidate for the Tawau area is definitely a local but leaves the final decision to the party leadership.

Chan said DAP Sabah is optimistic about giving a strong fight in all the seats being contested and hopes to win them all. – November 7, 2025
