RAPPER and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, will be released on police bail following his detention over the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in the city last month.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that police investigations into the 33-year-old influencer’s death, which occurred at a hotel on Jalan Conlay on 22 October, remain ongoing.

"We are offering police bail. Thus far, there is no lead to show that he was involved with causing the death of the deceased," he said when contacted on Wednesday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus earlier said that the investigation papers had been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Hsieh was found dead in the bathroom of her hotel room under circumstances that prompted police to detain Namewee to assist in the investigation. His extended three-day remand order is due to expire on Thursday.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death, pending the outcome of forensic and toxicology analyses. - November 13, 2025
