KDM has announced a list of 39 candidates including former Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung to contest in the 17th State Election (PRN17).

The announcement was made by its Deputy President, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, at the candidate list announcement and manifesto launch ceremony today.

Popular Sabah singer and actor, Abu Bakar Ellah, 63, also known as 'Ampal' was announced as the candidate for the Kuamut State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat.

However, another seat, Kemabong, will be announced by KDM in the near future.

Abu Bakar previously contested the same seat in the 2004 State Election on an independent ticket.

KDM acting president Priscella Peter will contest the Melalap seat, which was previously won by her father, Datuk Peter Anthony.

Peter won the seat on a Warisan ticket with a majority of 1,719 votes.

Peter is serving a three-year prison sentence after his application for a review of his conviction and sentence for forging documents relating to a maintenance and service contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was rejected last August.

Meanwhile, KDM Deputy President Datuk Wetrom Bahanda is contesting the Matunggong state seat.

He is not defending the Bandau state seat he won in the 16th general election. - November 13, 2025
