THE Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) expressed its condolences to all fire department personnel in Hong Kong for the great sacrifice of Fire Officer Ho Wai-ho, a hero who fell while performing his duty to put out a fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po on 26 November 2025.

"The courage and spirit of sacrifice of the deceased in saving lives and protecting the community is a noble example and proof that the duty of a firefighter requires great perseverance, sacrifice and commitment.

"His loss is a reminder of the great risks faced every day by rescue workers for the sake of the continued safety of the public.

"His spirit of courage and dedication continues to be an inspiration to all firefighters everywhere," JBPM said in a Facebook post.

Tributes have poured in for the 37-year-old firefighter who was killed in the Hong Kong apartment blaze.

According to reports, Ho had served with the Hong Kong Fire Services Department for nine years.

During the fire, he was fighting the blaze on the ground floor of the building and was soon unreachable and was found about 30 minutes later collapsed in an open area of the block with facial burns.

He was rushed to the hospital, but died at 4.41pm.

Ho was planning to tie the knot next month to his girlfriend of more than 10 years.

One photograph that stood out in his Instagram was of him in his work attire carrying his girlfriend.

The caption read: "Thank you very much. Even if you find me annoying, I need to say it 100 times. Love u. You must always laugh as happily as this!" - November 29, 2025
