FOUR individuals, including celebrity activist Rafidah Ibrahim, were arrested today following a disturbance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru.

The arrests were made as authorities moved to prevent potential unrest at the high-profile event.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said police acted on information regarding a planned gathering intended to incite disorder at the ceremony.

“At 8.50am, we detained four individuals – two men and two women, aged between 39 and 47 – in the vicinity of Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur,” he stated.

The police chief described the behaviour of the detainees at the time of arrest.

“The four individuals were shouting and causing disruption, threatening the peace during our security operations at the Kampung Sungai Baru groundbreaking ceremony.

“The arrests were made as a preventive measure under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), as they were suspected of orchestrating a gathering following a call for public protest at the event, initiated by Rafidah Ibrahim,” he added.

Fadil noted that the call for action had been circulated on Rafidah Ibrahim’s TikTok account the previous day under the heading “Majlis Pecah Tanah Kampung Sungai Baru.”

“Police will conduct further investigations into all four individuals in accordance with the law,” he said. - November 30, 2025
