BUSINESSMAN Albert Tei, facing four corruption charges, was released on bail at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today.

Tei Jiann Cheing, 37, was granted bail of RM70,000 by Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin. The payment was made by his wife, Lee Pei Ree, together with a friend who acted as guarantor.

Earlier, Albert Tei pleaded not guilty to four counts of offering bribes totalling RM176,829.03 in the form of cash, furniture, and electrical appliances to former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

He is charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which, under Section 24(1) of the same act, carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

The court imposed additional bail conditions requiring Albert to report monthly to the MACC office, surrender his passport to the court, and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses.

The case is scheduled for remention on 8 January 2026. - December 4, 2025
