A 17-YEAR-OLD student was injured after the motorcycle he was riding against the flow of traffic collided head-on with a car on Jalan MKH Boulevard 2, Jalan Bukit, Kajang, on Thursday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred at about 2pm, involved the youth and his 20-year-old male pillion rider, who works in the private sector. The car was driven by a 30-year-old man.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said preliminary investigations indicated that the collision was caused by the motorcyclist’s negligence when he entered the opposing lane and struck the oncoming car.

“The motorcyclist not only travelled against the designated direction of traffic, but also did not possess a valid driving licence. Such dangerous actions jeopardise the safety of the rider himself and other road users,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Naazron said both the rider and pillion were thrown onto the road before being taken to Kajang Hospital for treatment. “The rider suffered leg injuries and a fractured left arm, while the pillion and the car driver were unhurt.”

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, and Section 26(1) of the same Act for driving without a licence.

Naazron stressed that the police would not compromise with road users who disregard traffic laws. “Police will take firm action against any individual who rides or drives recklessly. We urge the public to remain vigilant and comply with regulations for everyone’s safety,” he said. - December 6, 2025
