THE prosecution's decision to withdraw its appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to acquit Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor of 12 money laundering charges was done in accordance with the law.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said the action was taken after the Attorney General found that there was no need to appeal due to the weak basis of the case.
"I want to clarify, this court case is not because she is our supporter or our enemy, but according to the legal process. When was she charged? 2018. What is the process? Yes. What did the judge say? The case is very weak.
"Ask who the Attorney General was 2018? Who was the Prime Minister? The case is too weak, the foundation of the case was baseless," he said.
Anwar said the prosecution's decision did not affect the progress of other cases involving Rosmah and that they were still ongoing.
"Will this kill other cases? Other cases are proceeding as usual. But there is something I would like to remind my friends, whether the opposition or the government or government bodies or legal bodies.
"We must remember the principle of the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law must be preserved. Let's not decide according to our respective political tastes because we are not happy with one or two groups," he said.
Last Tuesday, the prosecution withdrew its appeal against the High Court's decision to acquit Rosmah of 12 charges of money laundering over RM7 million and five cases of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
Based on the Notice of Withdrawal of Appeal dated December 9, the Public Prosecutor announced that the prosecution did not intend to continue the appeal against the entire decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court which acquitted Rosmah of all the charges.
The notice stated that the Public Prosecutor, after giving notice to appeal on December 20 last year because he was not satisfied with the High Court's decision, did not intend to continue the appeal. – December 12, 2025
