AN elderly motorcyclist was killed in a morning collision involving three vehicles on Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Johor, in an accident authorities say occurred when he allegedly veered into the opposite lane.

Kota Tinggi district police chief, Supt Yusof Othman, confirmed the crash took place at approximately 6.10am on Saturday, December 13, at kilometre 4.8 of the roadway. The collision involved a motorcycle, a sedan, and an SUV.

“The victim, a 73-year-old man riding a motorcycle, is believed to have entered the opposite lane, resulting in a collision with two cars—one on the opposing lane and the other on the same lane as the motorcycle,” Yusof said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Bahru.

The sedan driver, a 69-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the SUV, a 22-year-old local resident, escaped uninjured, according to the police statement.

Supt Yusof confirmed that investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as authorities continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

The collision serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by motorcyclists on busy intercity routes, and police have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations. - December 14, 2025
