THE discovery of a baby boy abandoned behind a house in Kampung Alor Lintang, Kampung Raja in Besut on Sunday has uncovered an incest case involving a teenage girl and her younger brother.

Acting Besut District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Md Sani Md Saleh said that investigations found that the baby was the result of an illicit relationship between the 16-year-old teenage girl and was born secretly.

"Immediately after birth, the baby was reportedly thrown away by the suspect before being found by one of the residents of the house," he said in a statement as reported by Sinar Harian.

He said that the police had remanded a 14-year-old teenage boy for seven days starting Monday to assist in the investigation.

"The court allowed the boy to be detained for a thorough investigation into the case. "This case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code relating to the offence of baby abandonment, which can carry a prison sentence of up to seven years.

"An investigation is also being conducted under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest, which is sexual intercourse by individuals who are not permitted to marry by religious law.

"This section carries a very heavy prison sentence, which is not less than six years and not more than 20 years, as well as whipping," he said.

He said the act of abandoning a baby is an inhumane act and contradicts religious laws and clearly denies a baby's right to life.

On Sunday, the discovery of a baby went viral on social media and it is understood that the baby has been taken to the Besut Hospital for treatment and further action. – December 16, 2025
