A TOTAL of 2,603 flood victims from 8,104 families are sheltering in 68 temporary evacuation centres across Pahang as of 8am today, underscoring the widening impact of floods in several districts.
Figures released by the Pahang Disaster Management Committee Secretariat show Kuantan as the worst-affected district, recording 6,499 evacuees from 2,134 families.
Maran has reported 770 people from 222 families seeking refuge, while 502 people from 151 families have been displaced in Pekan. In Rompin, 333 evacuees from 96 families are currently housed in relief centres.
At the same time, data from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage indicates that 11 rivers across five districts in Pahang were at warning or danger levels as of 8am.
In Kuantan, five rivers are affected, involving the Chereh Dam, Sungai Belat at Seri Damai, Sungai Soi along the Pekan–Kuantan road, Sungai Lepar at Jambatan Gelugor and Sungai Kuantan at Pasir Kemudi.
In Pekan, elevated readings have been recorded at Sungai Mertiga at Jambatan Chini and Sungai Pahang at Paloh Hinai.
Other rivers exceeding safe levels include Sungai Tembeling at Kampung Merting in Jerantut, Sungai Puteri in Rompin, as well as Sungai Kechau at Kampung Dusun and Sungai Tanum at Jambatan Chegar Perah in Lipis.
Authorities continue to closely monitor river levels as rescue, evacuation and relief operations remain ongoing, with concerns that further rainfall could worsen the situation.
Meanwhile in Kelantan, the flood outlook has also deteriorated. In Kota Bharu, Bukit Kwong Dam near Rantau Panjang has exceeded the danger level, while two rivers have risen above the warning threshold as of 8am.
According to data from the national flood information portal, Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Lebir at Kampung Tualang in Kuala Krai have both exceeded warning levels, recording water levels of 23.46 metres and 34.24 metres respectively.
In addition, nine other rivers in Kelantan have surpassed the alert level. These include Sungai Galas at Limau Kasturi and Sungai Lebir at Kuala Koh in Gua Musang, Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang, Sungai Kelantan at Kusial and Kusial Baru in Tanah Merah, Sungai Kelantan at Kampung Temangan in Machang, Sungai Kelantan at Jambatan Tendong in Pasir Mas, Sungai Sokor in Tanah Merah and Sungai Galas at Chegar Lapan in Kuala Krai.
State authorities in both Pahang and Kelantan remain on heightened alert as weather conditions continue to be closely monitored to ensure public safety. - December 18, 2025
