THE government has announced a 50 per cent toll discount for private vehicles on 23 and 24 December, coinciding with Christmas celebrations and school holidays, in a move designed to reduce the financial burden on motorists travelling across the country.
Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the discount applies to Class 1 vehicles nationwide, including Class 2 at the Penang Bridge, across all toll plazas.
However, tolls at the national border entry points — Sultan Iskandar Building Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Second Malaysia-Singapore Link (LINKEDUA) — are exempted.
The government will absorb an estimated RM20.65 million in compensation for the concessionaires involved. Alexander described the initiative as part of the MADANI administration’s broader effort to alleviate living costs for citizens of all faiths, races and backgrounds.
“Selecting these dates also supports traffic management during the festive season and school holidays, particularly for outbound journeys to hometowns and return trips to urban areas, while optimising the operation of lay-bys and rest areas along highways,” he said in a statement.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance using the TuJu Highway Navigation App and MyPLUS-TTA, and to follow recommended travel schedules or travel time advisories (TTA).
The latest traffic updates will be available via the official social media channels of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) or by contacting the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752.
Alexander also emphasised the importance of road safety, urging drivers to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits and comply with all traffic regulations to ensure the well-being of all road users. - December 19, 2025
