A SENIOR police officer in Penang has been remanded for four days starting Wednesday to assist in an investigation into alleged corruption involving more than RM20,000.
The remand order for the 58-year-old Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was issued by Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Magistrate’s Court in George Town.
The suspect, dressed in MACC detention attire, arrived at the courthouse around 8:45 a.m., escorted by several MACC enforcement officers. Sources reported that he was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday while attending to give a statement at the MACC Penang office.
“The suspect is believed to have requested and received bribes from five individuals amounting to more than RM20,000 over the period from 2016 to 2021,” said a source familiar with the case.
“At the time of his arrest, the suspect was still serving at the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK).”
Further sources confirmed that the MACC had conducted surveillance on the officer for several years prior to his arrest, following complaints lodged against him. “This is the first time the suspect has been detained in relation to this case,” the source added.
The matter is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. - January 13, 2026
