THE medical team and specialist doctors treating former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are satisfied with the progress of the recovery and treatment process after 14 days of his admission to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Dr Mahathir's Press Secretary, Sufi Yusoff, in a statement, said that he was still receiving physiotherapy treatment without surgery.

"However, the physiotherapy recovery process is still expected to take quite a long time," he said.

Meanwhile, Sufi informed that Dr Mahathir and his family would like to thank all parties who have asked about his health and prayed for his speedy recovery.

According to the statement, the family also apologised as, on the advice of medical experts, visits are currently limited to family only.

The 100-year-old statesman was admitted to the IJN on January 6 after reportedly falling at his residence in The Mines, Seri Kembangan, and was confirmed to have suffered a fractured right hip.

He then underwent non-surgical physiotherapy treatment after discussions with specialist doctors from IJN, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz and Hospital Kuala Lumpur, who decided that the treatment was the best option. – January 20, 2026
