DELIVERY riders are the backbone of the country's gig economy, and any imbalance in the payment structure, including the issue of floor prices, directly affects their income and welfare.

PKR deputy secretary-general Bryan Ng Yih Miin said he was empathetic to the challenges faced by riders, and was committed to finding a fair and sustainable solution.

“I will hold discussions with various parties, including the Ministry of Human Resources, delivery platform industry players, rider representatives, and dispatchers.

“Some practical measures that can be suggested include combining multiple deliveries into one trip, setting more efficient pickup and delivery points, and using more transparent and fair platform technology and algorithms to ensure that rider welfare is maintained,” he said.

In line with the MADANI Government agenda under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he said various initiatives are being implemented to boost the economy, attract quality investments, and open up more high-value job opportunities.

“Medium and long-term measures also include opportunities for riders to engage in entrepreneurship, technical and vocational training (TVET), and upskilling and reskilling, so that they can explore businesses, technical sectors, or more stable and high-income jobs.

“I will continue to listen to the voices of riders, understand their challenges, and strive to find practical and sustainable solutions,” he stressed.

Ng added that empathy and concern for the welfare of riders and the issue of floor prices are not only values, but the foundation for building a fair, balanced, and sustainable gig economy ecosystem. – January 28, 2026
